I can be what I will to be.
Haanel offers those affirmative words in Lesson 4, and I remember from childhood the notion that I could become whatever I wanted. Somebody somewhere said I could anyway.
That is until the ‘I’ in the mirror became aware of or began believing in limitations. Until the ‘I’ in the mirror learned to make excuses or take the easy road.
But that’s not the ‘I’ Haanel is talking about.
When I repeat ‘I can be what I will to be’ to myself 20-plus times a day, what I want is to connect those words to something other than the grey-haired dude in the mirror.
The true ‘I’ of me is not that guy. It’s not my body, mind, or personality. This ‘I’ is spiritual, the source of all power, my true nature, and most of all, the Universal manifesting itself through my power to think.
I am simply the instrument the Universal ‘I’ uses to carry out its purposes — to think, reason, and plan.
I take this to mean that the true source of what I desire to be — and may I add ‘to do’ and ‘to have’ — are the desires Universal Mind wants to express through me.
It’s nice to think that things I dream about are not mine alone, but that the Universe wants them too. I hope ‘I’ gets as big a thrill from the Porsche Driving Experience as I do.
