Fresh with the excitement of my first hand-colored photograph (Light & Shadow #35), I went back to Jim’s ranch to make more pictures.
Even though he was a smoker, I feel guilty about asking him to light a cigarette. Not long after that, my friend found himself in the hospital from a heart attack. No more Marlboros. Doctors orders.
Another photographer in town had a gallery space associated with his studio and invited me and a few others to participate in a group exhibit of our work. A representative of a western wear company saw my cowboy-oriented hand-colored pieces and proposed using the images on T-shirts. What may have been a great idea on his part turned into a costly, harebrained scheme on mine.
Oh well, live and learn.
